I've just built a new computer system and i've put in a 20gb fujitsu HDD. I've managed to create a boot disk which boots me into A: prompt so i've Fdisked the HDD and formatted it, but I can't get it to recognise the DVD ROM. I've included the MSCDEX line in the Autoexec.bat file and the Config.sys as per the makers instructions, but I get the error "no valid drivers selected" and "invalid device MSCd001". The BIOS recognises the drive, but I can't access it so I can't install the OS. Please help!

I dont know if Mscdex can run a DVD rom drive, have you checked about any special drivers for your specific drive?

Try installing the DVD on the secondary master IDE channel, making sure that the cable is not reversed. Use a Windows 98 startup disk, which has CD drivers as part of the package, and it should recognize it.

Go with glc's advice. Use a Win 98 start up disk and choose "cd rom support". It will load a driver that will activate the cd rom drive.
