partitioning- scratch disk

Probably a simple question. I'm running xp and I need to partition my HD so that I can use part of it as a scratch disk for adobe premiere. What is this process for doing this? I don't have to put an OS on the partitioned drive since its only storage right?

thank you for your time.

If you already have an operating system installed and you now want to partition the drive, you will need to use some 3rd party software like Partition Magic or Acronis Partition Expert
