Problems with Iomega Zip drive

I have an 100 MB ATAPI/IDE Iomega Zip drive installed in my PC using windowsXP. A system error forced me to format the hard drive and reinstall the OS. Since then, my Zip drive has no longer been able to work. It instead asks to format the disk, regardless of whether or not it has data. I downloaded the Iomega software, which contains drivers. I uninstalled the ZIP drive, detached it, rebooted the PC, shut it down, re-attached the zip drive and installed IOMEGAWARE. After this there was no change in the disk drive behavior What's more, the disk shows up as a SCSI device in the WIndowsXP hardware configuration, even though it is an IDE device.

Is there any way to get the Zip drive working again? I probably won't buy another Zip drive again. I am so unimpressed with its unreliable performance.

Thanks in advance.
