Start>My Computer(Right Click)>Manage>Diskmanagement. Thats for XP. Should work for USB external drives as well, or I can only assume it would.

Disk management, to the best of my knowledge, won't do anything with a blank drive.

When plugged in does it appear on your "my computer" screen?

If you are using Win2K/XP, you have to use Disk Management, it will partition and format it for you. If the drive is already partitioned, you can format it the "old" way - from a command prompt or by right clicking on it in My Computer. If the drive is not partitioned, it won't even show up in My Computer.

If you are using 98/ME, you have to use fdisk and format or 3rd party tools just like with any other drive.

This is a new drive. Not formatted. Using XP Home. I tried to format it in Disk Management. When I right clik it I do not get the option to format. The only option available is "Properties"
