DVD burner

Which company has the best DVD burner along with the most user friendly software, Lite-On, Sony, HP or some other brand? It is for a friend. Thanks.

Plextor wins most of the reviews I've read, but they're the most expensive. Liteon is running a close second and much cheaper. I own a Liteon.

Haven't tried the plextor or liteon. The sony is the only one I have used personally. Have used the same one in about seven other sytems. No reliability problems, included software is not the best. Used them with nero and roxio and had excellent luck.

My Lite-On came with Sonic MyDVD, which I haven't used much at all. I like Nero, so I bought a full version of that program.

I use a Lite-On drive, that's what everyone has always recommended to me as the quality brand. Must admit I haven't heard of Plextor before
And I use Nero to run it

Liteon works great, but the sonic software is not as good as nero!

"The best" would be Plextor. It is also the most expensive, as already said.
LiteOn is the best bang for the buck. Very good quality and pretty cheap.
Sony wasn't the best (their drives didn't support bitsetting) and they don't make drives anymore. Sony branded drives are .. as far as I know they're currently rebadged LiteOns.
HP also doesn't manufacture their own burners. I own a HP and it is an excellent drive (rebadged Ricoh). The successor, a rebadged NEC, was bad. The current one, as well as the original NEC drive, is a good drive.

But I'd go for Plextor if you want to spend the money or choose the LiteOn.

Plextor is supposed to be the "Best". I have three Lite-Ons and use Sonic My DVD and I haven't experienced any problems.

I am very pleased with my Plextor PX-708A/SW-BL.

No complaints thus far.
