Stacking fans - Will it work?
If you stacked several case fans, one in front of the other, would the airflow be accelerated (as in a trubine), or would the airflow only be as strong as the weakest fan?
Where I work we have a whole room full of old junk computers and the thought of making a turbine cooler for my CPU came to mind.  What do you think? |

Been tried before...stacking fans doesn't increase or accelerate airflow, it'll just make your computer more noisy.

The only way that would work is if somehow you can make both fans spin together. Good luck on being able to do that!!!!! If you stack enough fans and have them blow out the bottom of your computer maybe your computer could levitate!!!

I suppose I could place four fans next to each other in a square formation and funnel it down into an opening the size of the heatsink.
It'll be fun to play with... I'm at work, so I have to have _something_ to do. I could just buy a $20 K-Mart box fan and funnel it down to my heatsink. Think about the cooling possibilities! |

i think he meant for them next to eachother not ontop so its pulling case or outside air in from 4 fans and pushing it all into the heatsink...

the only way 2 CPU fans would work is if you had a foot or two of 3" diameter PVC so you would have room for the air to gain velocity. this would be impractical because you would need alot of room to position the assembly.

Besides what Tim stated you would also need fans with different blade lenghts and/or pitch, a straight pipe would not get it. Preferably you would need one that has a conical shape and the highest performance would require stator blades
