That's the sort of post that will get flamed. Just a health warning here. Most people will disagree with you. in fact, I do, but I would ask that no-one post an answer to this underneath.

I have Intel and AMD systems. Both have their moments. I use a high-end P4 in my system. I make it do four things at once, and it does, very effectively. Keep one thing in mind with the P4: They do run hot. You'll have to modify your CPU cooling.
I use a high-end AMD in my nephew's system. Honestly, it blazes the P4. It comes with a more-than-adequate cooling fan. The only thing is: It sounds like he's running an Electrolux vacuum cleaner in his room, when he is on that thing. Flip a coin. You'll be happy (once-in-while unhappy) with either. A P4 setup is usually more expensive. If your going through all of that, install 2 Gigs of matched RAM. |

Does Anyone know whether AMD will ever be able to compete with the Intel Quad Core Processor?

Intel's Quad Cores aren't actually true quad cores as such, it's just 2 Core 2 Duo's stuck together, like the Pentium Ds where just 2 Pentium 4s stuck together. Whereas AMD have plans to bring out soon a 'true' Quad Core processor which I guess should blow Intel out of the water if it's anything like the change from Pentium Ds to Core 2 Duos. However thats just because AMD have been psyching everyone up, I'm sure Intel are well under way with true Quad Cores.

If it's anything like the first roll out of "true" dual cores, the AMD should have, in theory, the same advantage it enjoyed back then. Only time will tell, though...
