Another DVD Burner Question

it's looking like a dvd burner is gonna be my next investment. in general, i am looking for something around the century mark in terms of money. these are the drives i am looking at currently:

Sony DWU18A
LG GSA-4081BI
Lite-on LDW-811S/851S

just looking for a working dual format drive; nothing fancy. just wondering what the word on the street about dvd burners is. any recommendations on or off the list?

thanks for your help, hopefully.

If you decide on the LG, get the LG GSA 4082B

Are you in the U.S.? If there's a Best Buy near you (or I guess you can order online), the Lite-On 8x dual format burner is on sale for $99 after a $30 mail-in rebate. You'll find many here use and recommend the Lite-On burners.

I have the Lite-On 811S, as well as two other Lite-On's. I've made over 100 DVD burns (movies) and haven't had any problems.

does anyone use the dvd-ram?
the LG is the only model to support it in addition to everything else, but if i am never gonna use dvd-ram, i guess i would save myself a little cash.

also, i heard tell of next gen 12x or something dvd+r. if this is going to be rather soon, like may or so, i might put this off until prices drop. is this true or just scuttle?

The jury is still out on which format will take over (such as VHS vs Beta) but DVD-RAM is getting very big in Japan.
