A friend gave me a Ricoh mp6200s cdrw.
This is a scsi cdrw(one of the first made) I can't access Ricoh(excluding European site)and can get no info on it. It came with a PE Logic isa controller card, which can be configured. On the back of the device, there are jumpered connections(all open) labled scsi id id0,id1,id2. My question is should any of these be jumpered. It will be the only device attached to the controller. Has anyone ever used one of these? I believe the speeds of it are 2x,2x,6 or8x. It's a freebie,so can't complain !Also the controller card has dipswitches. The top one is for port on=140h off=340h The next 4 designate irq assignments. The bottom three read rom2 rom1 rom0 How should the port and rom settings be configured? Any help would be appreciated. TIA Alfie |

Yep - we had one of these. Its a 2x2x6. My advice to you is - toss the PE Logic card and hook it to a plug and play PCI scsi card. That drive is a workhorse as long as you keep the carriage rails lubed.
There used to be a great site at http://www.arrakis-ttm.com/cdr/tommp6200.html but I don't know if it's still up. It won't load at this minute. As I remember - it doesn't really matter what the drive ID is, as long as it isn't 7. With no jumpers, it should ID as 0. It's binary - jumper 0 and it's ID1....jumper all 3 and it's ID7. I *think* this is the manual for the card - ftp://ftp.pelogic.com/pub/Manuals/Pe...UsersGuide.pdf and this is how to install the driver - http://www.pelogic.com/Support/1600ME2000.html We never tried to use the card - and the site referenced above recommends not to - because we already had an Adaptec 2920 in the box we installed it in for a SCSI CD reader and a scanner. |

Thanks glc,
Installed the scsi controller, installed easily, was recognized by Windows ME. Using irq 10,set up via bios so irq 10 is used by isa legacy device,no conflicts. Installed cdrw, recognized and functioning, now will have to get burn software(will probably use Nero, there's a disk at the store,so it's free and is compatible with the drive. Now we'll see if it burns! Will find out tomorrow. Thanks again, Alfie |

Any burning software except raw write (Clone CD) works with that drive - it came with Adaptec EZ CD Creator Standard 3.01 and Direct CD 2.0. That's probably the most compatible drive ever made - slow as snails but stable. I have the IDE version sitting here getting ready to put it into a parallel port box so I will have a portable burner. Note that the drive won't overburn - stick with standard 650 meg blanks and you will be fine. It does have issues with some older generic and offbrand blanks, but seems to work fine with any "modern" media.

Hey,glc.
If you get back here, this thing won't copy a cd. It goes through the process, but then Nero says analyzing cd failed, what's up or down with that? Both drives are found by Nero, all devices are functioning, and all appears well,so can't figure it out. |

Don't use it as a source drive - use the regular CD reader - and create an image on the hard drive first instead of trying to copy on the fly. Mine (the IDE model) works just fine with Adaptec CD Copier doing it this way.

That's the way I've been trying it,I've already tried the common sense things, but no matter what cd I put into the reader, the same thing happens,"analyzing cd failed."
I came up with the idea of copying cd to hard drive,(Quake3)and burning it from there,it burnt okay,so I know the device is working. Last night, when I checked the disk,it had changed the format, and the cd could not be read,as all items had an icon and not as it appeared on source. Checked it just now,so I could tell you what the files were, and the burnt disk is now fully functional! What's that deal! ![]() So at least not all is lost, just a longer approach to what should be a simple function. I'll keep plugging at it and hope for the best. Thanks for your help. Alfie. |

Hmmm...maybe it doesn't like your version of Nero......or your Nero is corrupted. That's actually likely if it fails analysis using your cd *reader* as a source.
The Ricoh drive *is* somewhat sensitive to heat - try a different bay in your case that's better ventilated. If you have burning problems, the rails may need cleaning and lube. If you open the drive, there are 2 stainless steel rails that the head carriage rides on - clean them and put one tiny drop of teflon-based oil on each rail, spread it out, and put it back together. Clean the puck that clamps the CD in - if you handle CD's by the center hole, your fingerprint oil can cause slippage. Put a full length (74 minute) audio CD into the drive and seek from one end to the other to make the carriage do a full travel. These drives do run forever as long as you do this every couple of years. |

Thanks for the tips.I'll reinstall Nero and see if that cures it.
It burns fine from hard drive, and your right, not the speediest of the lot(1 hour per disk,1/2 hour actual burn),but can't look a gift horse in the mouth! ![]() |

Once you get all the settings figured out and stabilized, you can cut the burn time in half by doing burn only without a test first. With blanks at 25 cents each, a few coasters every now and then won't break the bank.

Just an update, the device still can't do disk to disk copy, but I also discovered the Ricoh mp6200s doesn't support raw, this is more than likely the problem.
So,I just have to copy to hard drive and then burn to cd,this works fine,so I'm happy
