Question

Hi,

I read a post a while ago about the IDE cable connectors, there is one blue, one grey and one black. The blue goes onto the board but which of the others is slave/master??

Thanks,

Jim

PS. And does it really matter that much?

It doesn't matter. The jumper settings on the IDE devices determine Master/Slave configuration. Assuming your system is not setup for Cable Select.

Yes, it matters. I don't remember the colors, but the middle connector is the slave drive and the end one is the master.

It doesn't matter on the older IDE connectors. It does matter on the newer ones.

  • Black - master hard drive
  • Grey - slave hard drive
  • Blue - motherboard

Send a message via ICQ to RJ

If you connect it wrong, you won't get the devices running.

If you have only one device connected to it it needs to be at the end. Otherwise the cable connection is not terminated and the IDE controller won't be able to recognice a device!
