Sata questions

Hi,
I would like to make two questions concerning sata hard disks.
Yesterday i bought a sata hard disk, the model is Maxtor 6Y120M0. My motherboard is the MSI Neo - FIS2R and it has the controller for the sata drives.

The first question
When i boot up my system after i have connected the new drive then the drive isn't shown in the list of the boot - up process. Is this right? After a little while i touched the disk and i felt the heat so i think that the drive is connected properly. Why isn't it on the list?
I know that if i want to use it under windows i have to install the drivers in the installation process but that's the next step, right? It is not shown in the bios list. In fact after the screen with the list of the drives i see a screen that says among other 'SataPromise378... No bios installled'
If you want i can post the full message.

The second question
The sata drive is going to be the bootable hard disk with Suse Linux 9.1 installed. I would like to know if suse linux supports sata drives.

Thanks a lot.

Somewhere in your bios, there should be an SATA controller. In Award BIOS it is under Intigrated Paripherals > OnChip IDE Device, but check your motherboard manual. There should be a setting to turn the SATA contoller on. Once that is done it will be avalible in the boot order menu.
