For several weeks after signing up with an ISP, there would be days when we could not get the service to connect. Error message was: Could not get a dial tone.
This became more and more an occurance, until now, this is the message we receive every time. It was recommended to get a new modem by several, including the ISP. We did purchase a new modem and install. Once set up, we still get the same error message of no dial tone, on both modems. The phone line is good, and we have no doubt that the modem is good. Could this be a OS98 problem, or motherboard problem? One quick note. When trying to access win98 help, it closes due to a illegal operation error. Are these indications of problems mentioned above or could this be a virus working on the hard drive? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you asiagirl |

You have cord plugged into correct slot on modem, right? Some makes are particular. You have correct modem selected in ISP properties, right? If so, try using Hyperterminal to dial. If it works, you have incorrect DUN (ISP) settings.
