HD / CD-ROM not recognized
I am working on building my own computer and for some reason when i connect only the power to the CD-ROM drive it will open and lights come on, however as soon as i attach the tape wires to it, it doesnt work anymore. Neither my HD or my CD-ROM are recognized in BIOS. There are jumpers on the back of the CD-ROM and im wondering if that has anything to do with it. I also have heard of compatibility issues with hardware so could that be possible? It is an Asus CD-ROM with a Samsung 120gb HD. Replies will be greatly appreciated!

Yes, the jumpers are important. For the HD you can set it Cable Select (CS), and plug the end connector into the drive. Or if that doesn't work, set it as the Master on the Primary IDE channel. Make sure you set the CD to Master, and again, plug the end connector into the drive on the Secondary IDE channel.

You may need to get into your bios to make sure the drive is recognized.
