Master and Slave...the what?!

Changed mainboard on my computer. Old one had 4 IDE connections on it, new one has 2 IDE and one...sata (?) IDE. HD is on IDE 1 and I have a DVD-ROM and CD-RW left. I have read that sata IDE cannot connect to CD drives, only Hard Drives (is this correct?), so for now I have the DVD connected to IDE 2 and the burner on standby.

Does it matter which device is master and which is set as slave? And my soundcard (Audigy Platinum) has an analog and SPDIF connectors. Both are on the DVD right now, but with the needed master/slave configuration, does is matter where I put those 2 connections on?

Thx a bunch. Just incase...

MSI K8T Neo (K8T800 Northbridge & VT8237 south bridge..whatever that means)
Athlon 64 3000+
512MB RAM (PC 2700)
GeForce Ti-4600
Toshiba 16X DVD-ROM
Plextor CD-RW

Yes.

Make the Plextor the master device on the secondary IDE channel with the DVD as slave.

No, it doesn't matter. But if you're using WinXP you don't even need those audio cables. If you enable digital audio, the signal travels through the IDE cable to the soundcard.

No. SATA is the successor of IDE and therefore can control both. The Plextor DVD burner PX-712SA is the first and so far the only SATA optical. In time more will appear.
