fqpissed Front USB Pin Configuration for a Compaq UWave MB

I swapped MBs in a friend's Gateway mid-tower computer which had a "Oxnard" motherboard with an Athlon 950 cpu. Since that motherboard was toast, I replaced it with a rebranded FIC AZ 31 OEM made for Compaq and called a "Uwave" board.

Then uwave board was a micro and fit the Gateway case perfectly. I re-formated the original HD and installed windows 98 SE and the VIA drivers. Everything works just fine.

I then proceeded to reconnect the power switch and USB front ports. I knew when I made the swap that Gateway had proprietary front panel wiring connectors for the power switch and the front USB ports. Not a big deal, I just removed the original 8 block connector and hooked up the power switch and power led leads. I now have a functional power switch and power led.

I figured I would do the same thing with the non-standard Gateway USB connector. Now I encountered a challenge, I can't find a Uwave board diagram showing the USB pin layout. I found the layout for the FIC AZ 31 retail board. It has a standard 5 over 4 pin USB layout but the pins are not wired in the standard intel configuration. The Uwave board has the same 5 over 4 pin layout. But my concern is....are the pins wired to the standard intel configuration or FIC's or possibly Compaq's proprietary specifications? Does any one know where I can find a Compaq Uwave OEM board USB pin layout and associated wiring information? I have tried the HP/Compaq site, no detailed information was there.

I would like get the front USB ports working but I don't want to toast the MB because of a lack of technical information on the OEM board.

Any ideas?

Yeah, I know..... I should have never used the OEM motherboard, but I had it in stock and was doing the work for a friend on a budget. If I had used a retail non-proprietary MB, I wouldn't be posting this message or have this headache either.....LOL!

Any help is appreciated!

Some additional information: on the FIC motherboard line the USB header has the following pin designations...#1 is VCC and #4 is ground. Is the Compaq Uwave board pin designation the same or is it a different proprietary Compaq thingie?

If they are the same I can hook it up safely, if not I need the proprietary pin designations.

Thanks!
