IDE Missing???????

Ummm. Not quite sure if this is a hardware or software issue but definitely IDE

When turning on the computer and after the memory check runs the boot moves to an IDE check. This comes up with my IDE 1 Master as NONE. The boot then continues until it tries to find the OS (Win XP) and then errors that files are missing.

After resetting a random number of times the PC will boot as if nothing is wrong.

I have checked all IDE cables and everything is secure. I have run virus scans etc but cant find anything there either and according to all the diagnostic software I can lay my hands on there is nothing wrong with the drive

I thought this a bit odd and none of my friends have heard of this at all. I thought it was probably isolated to the old hdd I am using (about 4 yrs old) and was living with it until I can buy a new HDD and do a rebuild but now it is affecting another computer in the house that ISN'T networked to mine. Exactly the same issue.

Does anyone know of a solution???

Many thanks in advance
