weird! new HD making shuddering noise
Hi folks
I just installed a new 40 gig WD hard drive to go along with my 80 gig. Now when I open some files there is a short 'shudder' vibrating noise that happens all of a sudden for half a second then stops. Almost like a scraping noise What is really strange is that it happens when I access files that are store on the **original drive**, not the new drive. The original drive never made a noise like this before I installed the new one. (I am using the new drive as a back-up drive with synchback). I have screwed all the screws in very tight and the drive cage seems to be ok. I can't figure out what this noise is. It doesn't make sense to RMA the new drive because the noise is happening when I open files on the old drive. (I hope I am making sense here). Any suggestions? Thanks! -- rd |

Do you have any other free drive bays? I would first try repositioning the drives to see if that makes any difference.

ok so I feel stupid, I was watching the front of my box and actually it is the *floppy drive* that is being accessed -- not the hard drive.
strange, because this started when I installed the new hd. I made a seperate post for this, but if anyone knows why my floppy drive would be accessing when I open files, apps that are not on a floppy, let me know. -- rd |
