Question DVD Burner Question?

I was looking at the specs for my Liteon 8X DVD Burner and I saw something that says MTBF ( Life ) : 70,000 Hours. What does this mean?

Mean Time Before Failure

In other words, average lifespan.

Do all burners and CD-Rom's have this projected life span?

Why not ?
And as I said, that's it. Never seen an MTBF number ? It's on every specification .. .at least it should be there.

I am also perplexed. 70,000 hours is almost 8 years. That's not a short life. Also, that number is considering that it is never turned off.
