duron 1600 power consumption
does anyone know how much power a 1600 duron uses?
on the PSU wattage calculator it says they are 25w (across the board) but the lowest athlon XPs are 49w.. i thought the durons were athlon XPs with some of the l2 cache disabled? |

The Duron is a different cpu than the XP,it's not a stripped down version.
The power they use is less than the XP's but I would follow the guidelines for the XP cpu, just to play it safe(overclocking for example) Typical power consumption is about 30 watts for the Duron. You can get all the info you need at AMD's website, just read the Duron's spec. sheets. |

i thought that the morgan durons were palmino's, and applebreds were thoroughbreds.. both with l2 cache disabled which may or may not be faulty
thanks for the tip alfie |

the Tbred puts out more heat because it has more cache. the newer applebred cores can be modified into full Tbreds quite easily, providing you have an unlocked chip.

when i was talking about watts, i was talking about power and not heat, but i guess the two are related and the cache probably explains the difference in power consumption. knew about the cache unlocking but thanks
