Last minute change of MB plans!

As the title says this was a last minute change in my building plan. I've finally decided to go with the ABIT "NF7-S" motherboard instead of the ASUS "A7N8X-E Deluxe". What do you PcMech members think? Did I make the right choice? One of the main reasons I switched was because the power supply connector on the motherboard was in a extremely annoying spot, it was across the board to the far right crossing over the CPU, etc.. The Abit PSU connector is below the PSU and doesn't cross right over the CPU as much. ABIT here I come!

PS-This MB supports dual channel right?

Thanks

I have never used Abit but I hear they are good. I don't see why the location of the PSU connector is such a big deal.

The NF7-S has been around longer, but I haven't heard anything bad about any of the A7N8X boards.

[edit]: Yes, the A7N8X-E Deluxe has dual-channel

Get the version 2 of that board if you are. As NF-7 will need a bios update without the 2.0 at the end to make it optimum

Thanks for replies!

The PSU connector is just one of my pet peeves, I don't feel comfortable with all those wires sitting on top of my HSF. Just annoys me for some reason.

Does anyone know if the ABIT "NF7-S" supports dual channel?

Also, I didn't see version 2 of the ABIT "NF7-S" on newegg. Am I not looking hard enough? or Are all the the newer ABITs version 2 automatically?

Thanks

You can always tie the wires up out of the way.

I have never used the Abit boards, but while Asus is a favorite here at PCMech, most people who respond to post that use the NF-7 boards seem to be very happy with them. According to the board discription it does support Dual Channel up to 400 mhz.

NF7-S is definatley dual channel. the only boards you will find with single channel nforce2 are the A7N8X-X and pretty much any nforce2 board made by soltek.

I have two computers with Soltek boards and both are Nforce2 and both support Dual Channel, or at least claim to.

I have an Asus A7N8X-E Dx that I've been playing with an oc project on. Discovered a limitation that will support your move to Abit, if oc'ing is part of your plans. Because of the way the Asus bios recognizes a Mobile 2500+ processor, the multipliers above 12.5 do not function. In checking various overclocking statistics, the Abit looks like a hands-down winner over the Asus. Good choice and good luck.
