New Plextor DVDRW causes blue screen

Installed a PX708A dvdrw in my daughters dell 2400 with xp.
The drive is recognized, it'll play music cd's, but when I put the bundled software,or a dvd movie in, I get the blue screen of death.
Original configeration was a cdrw w/csel, plugged to the secondary IDE conn. on the mb. ( the ribbon cable was a standard 40 wire)
First I hooked the plex up w/csel on the second connector (slave) of the ribbon cable, still got the blue screen.
Second I replaced the ribbon cable with an 80 wire one, left the configeration the same. Blue screen still there.
Third I switched the Plex to the first conn. (master), the cdrw to the second conn. ,left the 80 wire with both drives still csel, still have the blue screen.
Plextor's support is closed for the night, but I know ya'll are always open.
Thanks in advance, and I might not be able to reply til tomorrow cause it's gittin late here!

The factory Dell 40 wire cable is a cable select type cable.

Post the details of the bluescreen, please.

Tried the master/slave, no go!
Contacted Plextor, they said to remove Sonic DLA program
installed by Dell. Successsssssss! A lot of trouble for something so simple. I think Plextor should have sent a little info stating to be on the lookout for this situation.
Thanks again for ya'lls help!
