Dual Channel RAM Question

Hey all you RAM & Motherboard wizards out there. I have Dual Channel RAM question for you. I have an Asus A7N8X, Athlon XP 2800, and 512MB of Kingston PC3200 (400MH). This board supports Dual Channel RAM but my current stick isn't dual channel. Can I just get another stick of the non dual channel and pop it in or do I need to buy two sticks of dual channel to run in DC mode? Also, if you want another one... can I run 2 sticks (1GB) of dual channel RAM and keep my 512MB plain old RAM in the board?

Thanks to whomever tackles this one!!

if you get another stick of 512MB of Kingston PC3200, then you can run it, along with the one you have already, in dual channel mode.. it just needs to be the same.

not sure about the 3 sticks issue hopefully someone will address it.

Only 2 sticks will work in dual channel mode. You cannot do it with three, hence the dual.
If you get another stick of RAM to match what you have you should be good to go.

Hey all,
Thanks for the quick responses!! My first post and I'm impressed already...
So the third stick won't be operating in Dual Channel, but will it cause any conflicts? Can I have 1 GB running Dual Channel and the other 512 in the third regular slot?
Thanks again folks!

No, if you have 3 in, none will run in dual channel. Wait, I see you're running AMD, do you have 3 DIMM slots or 4? *SOME* AMD boards will run dual channel if they have three slots, and two dimms are matched, I think, however, the size of the two matched one's must equal the 3rd stick. I am not familiar with AMD, so check your mobo manual first, or contact Asus, or wait and see if someone else who knows AMD boards better chimes in.
