I have an HP Deskjet 882C printer hooked up to my computer and for the last couple of months it was working great then all of a sudden it stopped working. I went to control pannel and looked in the printer folder and it had nothing there. So I went and tried to add a printer and got the message Operation could not be compleated. Since it connected through a USB port I unpluged it and tried to plug it in another USB port but nothing was recognised. Can anyone help out there. My OS is XP Home SP1

Have you installed something recently? Does Windows recognize the printer when you unplug and plug it back in again? Try re-installing drivers if it does. If not try another USB device to ensure that the USB port is working.

I have the same printer and I think I remember the same thing happening once a while back. Try going through the installation procedure in the manual. That printer seems to be picky about order of operations. HERE is the manual in case you dont have it lying around anywhere.

yea i agree with unplugging the printer and pluggin it back in.....however, unplug the printer when ure pc is turned on, then turn off ure pc and plug the printer back in when it is off, then turn ure pc back on, with windows xp it should recognize it as new hardware if u do not have drivers installed

I'm having this same problem with a Canon CX3200, exactly as Shane351 describes, it is working okay trhrough the USB because the scanner part of the printer is functioning okay, it's just the printer part that has disappeared, I've tried all the above, installed drivers etc, but to me, if you try and install a new printer through the printer folder and get the "operation cannot be completed" error, surely its a Windows error?
Currently running WinXP SP1 as well.... Any help would be most appreciated. |

There have been some KB articles regarding issues with XP and parallel ports, they don't recommend it as it can cause problems on some systems
