Ok, i want to make a small partition (like 2 gigs) for my music media, i have a 40 gig maxtor in their now and i just want to set aside 2 gigs for music, i right clicked on my computer, clicked manage, went to disk management but now wat? Windows help says to right click on an unallocated space on the HDD, wat does that exactly mean?.........any help would be greatly appreciated

I've never had all that much luck creating partitions with Windows. Although I can't see logical reason to create a seperate partition for music (I'm sure you have an application for doing so), I would recommend using software such as PartitionMagic to do so.

Once your os is installed I believe your only option is to use a 3rd party software like Partion Magic 8 or Acronis Partition Expert. Here's a couple links for your review.

I don't believe windows administrative tools allows you to delete a partition if theres already something on it.
If you only have one partition youd have to reformat the drive and break it down again upon reinstalling windows. If you have more than one partition youd have to format and delete the partition that windows isn't on. *Formatting and deleting a partition will give you the unallocated space you need to create a new partition with. Programs like partition magic will (I believe) allow you to break apart a partition without having to format or delete it. |
