Minimum requirements for DVD burner to work.

I wanted to install a DVD burner in an old computer that I have but was told by someone that the hard drive wasn't big enough for a DVD burner to functioin properly and wouldn't work.
The computer has a 4.3 Gbyte hard drive and the processor is a K6. Also was told that at least 256 Mbyte RAM is required.
So, guys, whats is the minimum requirements for a DVD burner to function properly, was told at least 30 Gbyte. Is this true?
Also could someone tell me if its legal to make a copy of a movie for back up purposes for personal use.
Would I be wasting my time installing one in this old computer.

I personally think that you're better off saving it until you can get a better computer. DVD movies are around 7 GB per disk. Plus the more the RAM the better since it helps your buffer.

And I think it's legal to make personal back-ups of your own movies (not 100% sure tho).

Well, for the DVD burner unit to work properly, all you need is a PC with parallel ATA (perhaps it has to be at least UDMA33), that's it.

But well, that doesn't automatically mean it's useful. Your hard drive has a capacity of 4.3 GB ? Well, a single layer DVD holds up to 4.37, so you can copy your entire hard drive to a DVD and vice versa, but since you have Windows and some programs on the hard drive you can't copy a single layer DVD to your hard drive. There's not enough space.
And the dual layer DVD hold even 7.95 GB.
