5.1 audio AC'97 query
hello,
I'm lookin at buying this motherboard (ASROCK K7S8X) http://www.asrock.com/Drivers/Manual...R30_UM_v31.pdf and i'm wondering how the 5.1 audio AC'97 actually works with one line out.(pic on page 9 of .PDF file above)seeing as the 5.1 speakers i want to buy have 3 line in plugs. On my old system it has a 5.1 sound card and has 3 line out sockets. noticed this on a lot of MoBos, wonder if some one could shed some light? MTIA JP

That's the problem with onboard sound on many motherboards. There are only three jacks. When you have it set to 5.1 all three jacks are line out. Meaning, you do not have a line in or a mic in. That one of the many reasons I just bought a sound card to replace the onboard sound on my motherboard. I will add that I haven't heard many good things about Asrock. I would suggest an Asus board. Many of the new Asus boards have very good onboard sound with more than three jacks so you can use the line in and mic in without having to switch wires and settings.
