The response, to the S11 attack, by the American Government appear to be well thought out. President Bush's assertion that the Afghani people are not the enemy, has allayed any fears of a response for political sake.

Truth is that with a few exceptions, the way that things are being handled are carefully considered. The knee jerk reaction has not happened.

Nations are often symbolised by what they build, if maximum damage in terms of lives lost was the primary goal then there are other targets that would do more damage in that respect. The WTC towers represented the heart of the American way of life (capitalism). The purpose of these type of attacks is to demoralise.

To respond and get your target with a high loss of "bystanders", places the respondent in the same mould as the original perpetrator.
