Suitable punishment for terrorists

Before 9-11, the general public could barely spell terrorist.
Since 9-11, I've heard or read dozens of "expert" opinions regarding
what should be done if and when we catch "those responsible".

My idea involves no bloodshed, so the bleeding hearts can approve it.

Let's dig. About 150 feet down, right below Leavenworth federal
penitentiary. Get down there, branch out, and construct a whole bunch
of tombs. These tombs will be about 8 ft x 8 ft x 8 ft. Use a whole
lot of reinforcement rods in the concrete floors, walls, cielings.
Plumbing not necessary, no electricity, these are tombs. Perhaps a little
reflected light by mirror should be permitted. And a SMALL hole in one
wall or cieling, permitting the passage of bread and water.

Now, we've caught and convicted our terrorist. The death sentence
is very appropriate, however, we wish not to offend persons of
certain religious persuasions. (let's clarify, there are just as
many Christians as there are Moslems who foolishly believe the
10 commandments prohibit killing under any circumstance)
So, being the wonderful, peaceful, reasonable nation that we are,
we sentence said terrorist to death, sentence deferred til it is
convenient for the Government to carry out said sentence.

Next, we entomb said terrorist, without hope of access to newsmedia, mail,
tools, weapons, entertainment etc. He gets his 1 pound of bread, and a couple
quarts of water each day, til he breathes his last. Then we seal his tomb.

Let me add, we provide no medical service. Said terrorist, claiming to
be the personal envoy of Allah, surely has the inside track on the best
healthcare in or out of this world.

Quite obviously, I did't know what I was doing when I set this thing up.

Actually, I'd prefer seeing dialog here, votes are cool, but I see no need
to start another thread for it.

If it were my decision to make I wouldn't do anything to the terrorists. I'd promise that no representative of the american government, either military or political, will set foot on their soil, fly through their air-space, or in any other way impose upon their land and way of life. I'd then cut off all ties to the area, refusing to grant aid or endorsement to anyone. I'd make it clear that they have won their holy war and the US government will have absolutely nothing to do with them from then on. when hoardes of americans get mad at my policy of non-intervention I'd tell em that as civilians they are free to form militias and fly over there and kill whomever they wish on their own accord. I doubt they'd get very far though without all of our military's fancy toys and large funding.

Reedimus, do you think for one second that if we were passive the last 200 years or so you would be setting in front of your PC on a wednesday evening with nothing better to do than surf the web??? What if the likes of Hitler, Mussolini(not sure on spelling)Or the Japanese empire had taken control?? May God bless everyone who has fought and died for this country. I say find everyone who tries anything like this and dont waste any money or time on a military tribunal either......

A policy such as I suggested for dealing with middle eastern countries is much harder to sell if you say it should apply to dealings with all countries. So I won't even try. so talk about hitler and mussolini isn't applicable. countries like afghanistan pose zero threat to america as far as being conquered goes. all they can do is pull off a few terrorist attacks here and there. I don't think trying to kill the terrorists is the best way to prevent further terrorist attacks. I'm likely being naive in assuming that america's motivation in this war is to prevent future terrorist attacks though.

They don't want to conquer us ...they want to eradicate us from the face of the planet and ignoring any enemy with intentions as rabid as these people would be a foolish if not criminal course of action by our government.....and contrary to an earlier post...our war is not with afganistan.....it is against people who are well trained, motivated, and financed and for whom death is not defeat. To stop them they must be eradicated .......and had we help in afganistan when the soviets pulled out.....this might not be happening...just like had we supported Ho Chi Minh against the French after WWII we probably would not have had a Viet Nam war. To become isolationist in todays world is suicide. The soviets realized it to late and they fell from within......and the chinese have taken heed....at the local level democracy and capitalism are becoming part of chinese life...and once freedom takes hold it cannot be eradicated...stunted but never wiped out.
