Folding @ home speeds up comps??

This is pretty cool, i just downloaded Folding @ home and put the number for the pcmech team of course, whats really cool about it, i set it to use 30% of my resources, and now my pc is running faster its awsome i guess if its idle it slows down but when working it runs fast!! By the way i will tell my science teacher about it tomorow, so that we could get the school to fold, my school has 3 computer labs each has like 30 pcs, that are brand new dells p4 2.8, so i think this will push pcmech team a bit, also the middle school has a couple of new comps that they might use to fold too, so wish me luck that the teacher will do something!!!

How did you set it the memory usage at "30%"?

you cant set the memory usage, u can set the cpu usage at 30% by right clicking the program from beside the clock, and click configure then click advanced you'll see it there and you can set how much you want foldin @ home to use your processor.

Not memory usage...cpu percent usage.
Right click the FOH cog, configure, advanced tab. There lies the cpu percent useage slider

They're talking about the GUI client. You're using the Text Console, so it's a different method to set that up.

You'd have to right click the shortcut and add the flag "-config" without the quotes one space after the last thing in the target line. Next time you run FAH, you'll have to go through all the setup questions again. I think you have to answer Yes to advanced settings to get to change the processor usage.

The drawback is that setting to less usage means the fold goes that much slower.

The F@H client only uses free CPU cycles, so I see no need to throttle it down. Run them at 100%, and you will have faster folding times, and it won't affect your computers performance.

i agree, let them run at 100% i have never seen any problems with running 100% 24/7! good luck at getting the school to fold, i made a power point and if i can get it from my school IT i will let you use mine, but this is easier said than done. poor Kov has been waiting since before x-mas to get it and still hasn't. sorry Kov i'm trying!
