DNet client prevents network access

I'm using the distributed.net client on one of the computers here and it does the strangest thing. When the client is working, you cannot use the internet or ping the router, so sending or recieving packets is out of the question. The second I quit the client, the router can be pinged and the internet works fine. I just don't get it! I don't see how it's possible. I can only send and receive packets if I change the clients shortcut so it can dump and retrieve packets before it's started processing. Can you help? I must be overlooking something silly. It's the only computer I've seen it happen on.

What O/S is it running?

It *could* be that the TCP/IP stack gets clogged with send/recieve requests and doesn't take any more, or it could be a faulty NIC. What NIC is the computer using?

But while the client is actually processing (ie, not sending or receiving packets at all) shouldn't it not be clogging everything? Windows XP Pro. NIC? Is that the client? It's v2.9009-494-GTR-04081423 for Win32 (WindowsNT 5.1).

I believe FF means the Network card (i.e. the PCI card that the network cable is plugged into).

LOL, the same one that I'm using on this computer, and it's working fine here. It's a (breathe in) D-Link G-520+ AirPlus XtremeG+ (breathe out) PCI card.
