I've had a problem with one of my machines recently - that is probably whats happened to TurboBird. Unless something really bad has happened hopefully the average will pick back up.

I've not heard back from Turbo. That's alotta work to install on all those machines. Wonder if he was made to remove them all or something...
Good news is we've added several new members over the past few weeks, and lil Jimmie will be bringing back some processing power as well. Happy Folding, all!

I added a second system a little while ago. I'm also looking at getting another old machine that I have sitting in my basement without a hardrive up and folding. It's an old AMD K6, but it would be strictly for folding. It's just collecting dust anyway, so I might as well toss a HDD in there and get system # 3 going.
I've got HAL9000 nipping at my heels to keep me going. He has 4 CPUs though so I think he'll overtake me soon.

actually, stryker, with that K6 S@H will run a lot better. with the older AMD chips they don't have a very strong math processor but for some reason S@H runs great, i have one setup for seti (for the pcmech team) but if i try folding it takes days and days to finish a single frame!
just a thought.... |

My K6-2/500 was terrible with S@H - it was slower than my Pentium 200 MMX.

Is it so bad that it's not even worth plugging it in?
![]() Maybe I'll give SETI and folding bot a try and see which runs better. I would prefer folding because I'm significantly more interested in medical research than I am in extra-terrestrial life. I think SETI is interesting and all, but if given the choice I would choose to support folding@home. |

Very cool, Eric. That's good to hear. I'm still curious to hear why Turbo's labs went off-line...

Well having been away for some time I was sad to hear that I missed some rather large point WU that were being dished out and now are no longer valued at the same point scale. All teams went through a large point increase then dropped off, so that may have been some of the decline in points as for turbo I dunno is it possible he/she was using machines without the proper permission?

I was just wondering, I was thinking of setting something up with my school to use our comp labs for F@H... the only thing is that they have deep freeze installed on everything. If I convince the school board to get on the f@h bandwagon, how are they going to install it?

i had that problem also, but this year they disabled it to install AV software. what i was planning was getting an older system somewhere and setting it up as a "folding-server" store all FAH files on it (work, client, etc) have each computer in the school have its own folder on the server. i tried something like this here at my house and it didn't work tho, maybe i did something wrong.

quick update. Sorry I have been away for awhile with a new job now and trying to graduate this May.
Folding messed up some machines (got to hot) over in one our small labs in Sloan Hall and so my boss immediatly got bitter about it and we had to stop Folding. But I quit that job shortly after that happened and now I work for a new company that is 10x better. So hopefully after awhile, I can convince my boss to run some folding on some of our machines but I am not sure. No labs here, just personal/work pc's so I am not sure if thats gonna happen or not. Me and Bcoles will keep folding on our home machines though and do what we can to keep helping out.

lol, it was more or less the last straw ontop of a bigger pile. I do not believe that the computers in sloan failed because of Folding, I think it was just the first thing he jumped on since he is a (removed by moderator) troubleshooter and didn't look into the problem enough. I didn't even get to look at the machines since I quit right after basically and from what I heard it was only one or 2 machines and he said they failed because Folding was using to much memory...yeah, these machines had 512mb of ram...I highly doubt that. But whatever, i couldn't take much more of his genius.

It's lucky for him you installed F@H on those sytems before they failed... otherwise he wouldn't have had anything to blame it on.
He may have actually had to do an investigation!!!Good luck with the new job Turbo! |

Thanks!
Naw, he wouldn't have blamed it on anything and just reformatted the machine or as he liked to call it "Rebuild". It was his solution to everything, lol. |

Sounds like he needs a "Rebuild" himself. Maybe a "Cold Boot" would help too!
