F@H error message
Hi folks, The last 4 days when I right the F@H icon to check my stats I get the message F@H has to close & the choice to send error report or not. I don't send but in seconds the Icon is removed from the toolbar.
First time went to all programs & clicked F@H which put icon back on tool bar. After doing this twice I pinned it to the start menue. When I hover cursor over toolbar icon it shows activity 0/0. Then if I left click icon & bring up the F@H screen w/moving grapics & check the toolbar it shows activity. Has anyone else had this situation? Can someone show me how to stop the BS? RevCLB

RevCLB, The servers are down because of a cooling issue at Stanford. I'm not sure when they plan on commin back online but it seems to only be effecting some users. I installed folding on a new system yesterday and it downloaded a new unit without any issue.

It may be that using the Graphic Interface is conflicting with something else OpenGL. You may consider running F@H as the Text Console or a Service, and using EMIII to check your stats.

Sorry, Rev. You have the little red protein icon on your toolbar in the lower right-hand corner. That's the Graphic User Interface, or GUI. It can sometimes have conflicts with other programs, which causes it to act buggy like that.
When you originally downloaded the F@H program from HERE, there was an option to download the Graphic client (which you did) or the "No nonsense text-only console." That runs F@H in a program box on your taskbar, but there are no bells and whistles. If you install the text-only console, it gives you the option to install as a service. Selecting yes to that allows F@H to run in the background without the program box on your taskbar. Either way, you can download a program called Electron Microscope III, which does have bells and whistles to show you how your folding stats are coming along. If the servers coming back online doesn't clear up your problem, you may want to just change your client over from GUI to Text Console. If you choose to do that, let us know and we'll walk you through it so you don't lose any of your current stats or Work Unit info. |

Thanks Kov-Ice for the explanation. I am really slow on the tech stuff & lurk a lot here to read up on stuff. If the problem doesn't clear soon I will do as you suggest.
It's not really important that I can follow my progress, just fun. As long as I am still folding it's ok. You PCMech people are some of the best on earth. Thanks again. RevCLB |

Not only has swp posted several WUs already, but we have another newcomer in EnzF! Also, jimmyrules712 has rejoined after a brief hiatus and is putting up some nice, fat numbers as well. Thanks for your efforts, guys!

I just joined the team, and the software is running on my home PC as we speak. I folded a couple of years ago when I was using a non XP version of Windows, but got fed up with the whole OS. When I purchased the new XP system I never restarted the folding.
Well, now I am back. I hope to allow the software to run full time, but who knows? |

OK, here is a question: What the heck is an WU? Work Unit or something? What information about my computer do you all need to calculate how many WU's I will get in a day? Just curious, of course. What is the measure of points discussed in these threads? One point for one WU? AMD Turion 64 Mobile Technology ML 40 2.19 GHZ, 1 GB RAM Is this enough? |

Yes it's work unit (WU).
As for keeping score, right click on that little red gear in your system tray and the click on status. make your choices from the next menu for the statistics, etc. I have no idea how many work units you'll get in a day since it will depend on what gets downloaded to your computer.

I have helped create a website called YURT, http://yurt.blaszczak.com/, where you can findout how fast other systems similar to yours are folding. This should give you a pretty good idea of what to expect.

The list of machines page gives a list of all machines currently running the YURT program and that are in the database. If you click search for a machine you can find a machine that is close to what you have. After looking around I have noticed that the guy who actually runs the page (was my idea but he did all the programming and real work on it) hasn't updated it with current computer systems. I'll let him know about this. Also note that with only 182 systems in the database its not very accurate, the more people who install the software and contribute to the database the better it will be for everyone.
I found a C2D system but its a 6300. its getting 408ppd. |

C2D is Core 2 Duo
6300 is the model processor it is. yours is a T2400 I assume (I know very very little about the new Intel CPUs) 408ppd is 408 Points Per Day which refers to the average number of points per day that system is getting by running folding. Sorry for not explaining it better, its late and I'm tried. lol |

That tip points to the Info to Know thread. Force updated the links in it, many of which had changed since it was first written. We'll see if there is an influx of new contributors. Hopefully with more people aware of what's going on, there will be.
