Started folding today, planning on having it 24/7 on this computer seeing as its nearly useless in games. I have it on 24/7 as it is, even when I'm sleeping simply because Ive gotten so used to the sound I cannot sleep without it.

I don't see a problem with loosing minimal performance on my computer to help the world a little.

Using the same name as in the forum.

Welcome to our newest member, z3frog. Thanks for joining up.

Glad to hear you are contribuiting as well, seizure. I wonder if you have completed a Work Unit yet, as your name hasn't appeared on the roster so far... Or possibly you don't have the correct team number (13761) entered in your config?

I was reading a nice article in CPU Magazine this month about FAH. In the article it mentions FAH software that can utilize multicore CPU's I went looking for the software on the FAH website but did not see a dual core software download.. Where might it be? I have a dual core computer at work now that I would like to be able to utilize both cores for FAH.

The article mentioned software available now which utilizes the GPU on ATI cards with software coming out in the near future that can utilize Nvidia GPU's...very nice.

The "dual core" version is called the SMP client and is currently only available in Linus and Mac flavors. I have setup VMServer and run the linux version that way with no problems but thats currently the only way to run it on a windows machine. The only other option is to run 2 instaces of the regular console client.

The GPU client is pretty neat as well, I have been waiting on it for over 2 years now! Im running it on my x1900GT right now, and its foldin along just fine. They do plan on making an Nvidia client as well, but the current ATI cards are much faster for folding than Nvidias.

Eric, do you know the minimum ATI card that can run the GPU client? Can it be run in tandem with the standard client on the same machine, or is it a one or the other deal?

Here's the F@H faq page about ATI : http://folding.stanford.edu/FAQ-ATI.html
An X1900 Graphics card is required.

Right now, its one or the other. Since the GPU is so much faster than any CPU the GPU client must constantly be "checked up on" and feed more work which uses 100% of a CPU (or CPU core). With a dual core system you can run 1 CPu client and 1 GPU client.

I think some new members may have been missed, but thanks goes to arcox80, our latest contributor. Our Active Membership is up to 65, which is as high as it's been in quite a while. Well done!

I think it's really awesome that you guys are so gung-ho about folding. Sometime soon I plan on getting a very cheap P4 or PIII system that can just sit in the corner and fold day in and day out. That's also the nice thing about having a dual core CPU too, though. I can fold, scan for viruses, and play games all at once.

I have had a couple of huge WUs already...feels cool to contribute.

It's been a while since we've had some new contributors (or at least since anyone has mentioned them)... Two new folders have brought our active folders back up to 50.

Welcome to the team eaglestrike7339 and digitalfreedom64. Thanks for joining!

Yikes! It's been a while since anyone has used this thread, and our active number has dropped to 30 folders... but we do have a new contributor. Thanks for joining cherrion! Who's next?

Wow. Didn't realize we had lost so many folders. Guess that's why we're dropping in the ranks.

Welcome to cherrion though.

We have over three hundred-fifty members who have folded for PCMech in the past. We could sure use some returnees!
