Can't connect to server (results)
I have a question concerning this. My second computer has been unable to connect to the results server for F@H. However, it is still able to get new work units and process them. I checked the server status for F@H, and I see that 2 are down, 1 is Reject, and 1 is Fail. How exactly will this work when my other computer is able to connect? It has been like this since yesterday. My main computer is still able to connect and send work units. Is there a way to choose a different server, or do they have certain servers for certain work units? Just wondering.

the way i understand it is that there X amount of sending server and X amount of receiving ones. they tell your computer what one it needs to connect to and thats the only one it does. awhile back i heard talk of changing this so that any server could get the results back but i don't know if they ever changed it. the only thing you can do is sit back and wait... when the server is back up it will upload the work.

Will I lose any of the work units I've completed? Or will they be transmitted once it finally connects?
Thanks for the quick reply. Scomac |

you shouldnt loose any. as soon as the server is back they should all upload at once without any problem. i can't see Stanford taking points away for their problem, you had them finished before the deadline, its not your fault you couldn't send them. so you should be ok.

The client's queue can hold 10 completed WUs, so the server would likely have to be down several days before you completed that many. They should all send the next attempt so long as the server is back to active.

Well, I just checked and the other computer still isn't connecting to the servers. However, this computer still is. I have checked everything on my end and can't seem to find anything that would be preventing it on my end. Shut my firewall off and still won't connect. I see that they are still having problems with 2 or 3 different servers so those must be the ones it is trying to connect to.

If you check the F@H log file it will show the IP of the server and you can match it against those servers that are down. Sooner or later it will upload the WU, no need to worry as long as the WU was completed before it's deadline.

Thanks again for your quick replies. I did as you suggested Jimmie, and checked the IP that the computer is trying to connect to. The server it is trying to connect to is 171.64.122.143. The status for this particular server is set to 'reject'. Is there any way to change which server it connects to? Or are they set to transmit to certain servers based on the work unit? Unfortunately, I can't check the log for this computer and see what server this one is trying to connect to since it just recently downloaded a new work unit.

No there is no way to change the WU's destination.
Reject means the server should be accepting but for some reason isn't. From the Server Stats page: Quote:

Thanks again for the quick reply. That sheds some more light on the subject. I had read thru the information at the bottom of the status page, but missed the part about rejecting.
Thanks! Scomac |

Just an update to this. I checked the log file on the computer, and it is just one work unit that is being held in the que. It has been regularly submitting work units, except for the one that is trying to connect to that one ip that is down. It will transmit the ones it can, but it still can't upload the one that is being kept in the que.
