Big milestone for enhanced08dotcom!
Congrat, man! You broke the 300K mark, I think that deserves a round of applause from the PCMech crowd.

Wow! Only 299,000 more points, and he'll be right there with enhanced!
![]() Jimmie just went over 200K recently. That's pretty awesome, too. enhanced, how much longer will you be able to keep cranking out the WUs with those school comps? Maybe they'll be kept on during summer school as well? Thanks for all that work to get them going in the first place.

I actually have been thinking about starting a thread that could be a central location for "pat on the back" type comments that members could post about the Folding accomplishments of others (or themselves, even ). I've seen this done at other forums that have F@H teams.I guess I was hesitant to do it in this DC forum, because I don't want it to be viewed as a spot for gratuitous post-padding. If we did it in the General Discussion forum tho, I'd be afraid it would get lost if we all didn't keep up with it. Any thoughts? |

Kov, I didn't think that at all but I don't think we should overlook those who don't have the resources as some of us do.
EDIT- I wish that the admin would have done away with the post count in the Distributed forum so that things like this wouldn't be an issue. I know that there are helpful posts to real problems, but they are very few compared to the other forums. I don't know. I like to think alot of the posting that's gone on here by most of the active members has been worthwhile. I agree some people may have abused it, but it hasn't been much of an issue recently.
That still leaves the question, would a Pat-On-The-Back thread be useful (in bringing attention to F@H)? Is it inviting post-padding to put it here? Would it survive and be updated if it were in General Discussion? |

I agree that probably 95% if not more of the posts are productive, helpful and informative and the team members don't abuse the forum for padding their post count. I know for myself I don't post the "congrats" threads to avoid the issue.
It would be nice to have attaboy type of threads to help boost team moral and interest. I see other teams so fired up with interest, enthusiasm and friendly competition that it's almost sickening, but I don't know what it will take. I say go for it on the attaboy theads and lets just see how it goes, I'm sure ForceFlow will keep and eye on things if they get out of hand. |

Foldin' For PCMech!

hey guys, thanks for the congrats! sorry i havn't been to this part of the forums for quite awhile. i did however watch as i passed trainop for second place. hehe...
the only reason i stopped in here was to tell of some bad news... today was my last day of school. the underclassmen will be there untill the end of next week. i don't know for sure but i would bet that the computers will be shut down for the summer so my points will drop to about 200pts/day i would guess. next year they will be back to normal and maybe even more.... i know that there are 10 brand new 3.2 P4's sitting in boxes for a new computer lab. they want to get 24 i think and i'm going to see if i can't get them to fold as well but thats a few months away until then.... i'll have my P4 pumping out the WU's.happy folding and thanks again!

The reason for the Distributed Computing forum was to keep all dist computing related stuff inside this forum, rather being spread out all over the various forums (gen software, www, GD, etc.). Unless there is some significant developments/news/comments that you feel needs to be seen in GD, try to keep a majority of the distributed computing related stuff here.

OK, cool. I agree it makes sense to keep everything together, I just didn't want it to create a problem. I do occassionally post an FAH update in GD because there's more traffic there.
So we have the blessing of a mod (thanks FF), let's do this then. Now we need to come up with a thread title that lets everyone know what's going on. Jimmie, you've seen them elsewhere, too. I can't remember how they titled them, tho. The purpose of the thread would be to promote Folding@Home awareness through competition Quote:

We already have a welcome thread that's skickied, so that's taken care of.
As for the other subjects, I think it would be best to but all the milestone/rank passing in one thread. |

The welcome thread is for welcoming, be it if we post welcoming a new folder, or a new folder introducing themselves. I don't plan on making a new welcome thread.

Alright. So new FAH member greetings in the Welcome thread. But accolades and accomplishments gets its own new thread, yes? I've seen boards where they post a new thread for each points update, which seems a little excessive. Like FF said, keeping them together makes most sense.
So what name works for the congrats thread?

Too bad I missed out on the discussion, but it turned out pretty much the way I would have asked for and expected...
Anyway, how about: "Folding Accomplishments and Congratulations"? Could probably still use a little bit of work, but just another idea in the pot. |

Hi guys,
I think whatever it is, it should have the full "Folding@Home" in the title, rather than just folding or F@H, etc... This will just clarify a little for those who aren't quite so savy in the folding world (or for those who haven't become part of that world yet). I like the "Folding@Home - Milestones & Recognition", as it covers larger milestones and can be used for just plain old recognition too. The other (sorry crash ) sounds like it's ONLY for the recognition of milestones.

FF has the final say, but Folding@Home - Milestones & Recognition sounds fine with me.
Force, if you want to start the thread in order to lay any ground rules, let me know. If not, I'll type it up later. |
