Wow! It's been almost another month since we applauded our folding team. The holiday vactation has taken a toll on enhanced08's output. Looks like the school has 'em all shut down for the break. Meanwhile, my Mystery_Folder identity has broken the 2000 points per day barrier this week. Seems that adding a 12th machine in house and changing my P4 HT from the GUI to dual services has picked things up quite a bit. We've probably missed several folks that have attained new levels in the past few weeks but here's a "Way to Fold!" shout out to the latest achievers.

3000 - figarowa
5000 - DragonBreath
60,000 - mbossman2
80,000 - greg20

I didn't pat myself on the back when the Mystery_Folder passed Redfallon for 10th place in the team standings but in the past couple days my folding farm has pushed past Lil Jimmie and Outlaw91 to take over 7th position. That's just over 250,000 points/961 work units in just under 6 months. Feels good to move up but it feels even better knowing you're contributing to research that may help achieve medical breakthroughs. Keep folding gang and Happy New Year!

Congrats to everyone!

Yeah, the school shut everything down and now that I'm back in Maryland for the holidays they turned off my computers in Alaska! So there went 2 QMD folders and almost 7GHz!

I noticed that you had jumped to 2k, PR, and also noticed a few 450pt WUs... QMDs... give ya a nice bump in ppd dont they?

Happy New Year! (in 2 days)
Happy Folding!

Cool The Dirty Dozen keep on folding!

These 12 pc's in my home have been pushin' hard the last couple weeks. Adding the second cpu from the HT P4 and setting things up to fold QMD wu's has kept me right around the 2K ppd mark. Just wanted to say thanx to Eric (enhanced08) for some behind the scenes assistance. The not so mysterious Mystery_Folder has now taken 6th place on the PC Mech team. (sorry Skipper!) Projections say trainop's idle mark of 311,539 is less than 30 days away with Kov_Ice clearly in the sights for 5 days after that. Tomorrow marks 6 months since I began this folding quest and it's still fun to watch the points accumulate and know that the info these pc's are generating will be used for a common good. If you're reading this and you're still not a member of the PC Mech folding team, what's your problem? Join up!

I second that PR, we need some more members. As a folding newb, here's a few links you newcomers might want to look at (also check out the stickies on this forum, they are excellent). Here's two bits of info it took me some time to realize...

There are two ways to run folding@Home, the "console" version which is a graphics free (looks like a MS-Dos box) that you can run as a program or as a service (in the background, you won't see it, it'll just run each time you put your computer on). Most people use this if they are into folding. THere is also another version that basically runs like a normal program (it will be listed in your bottom taskbar) and it shows some graphics of the proteins folding, though they are not very exciting.

If you use the console version, EMIII is a cool program that monitors the progress you are making in Folding. I had some trouble installing at first, here is a cool guide, just make sure you do it and insert the PCMech team number and your name instead of their sites info:
http://www.cancerkillerz.net/ -F@H and EMIII Setup Guide's

Here's the stanford sites FAQ: http://folding.stanford.edu/faq.html

And one more thing, because Folding@home runs as a program/service with a low priority, you will not notice and difference in the speed of your computer because only your extra or spare CPU resources are being used! So join our team and help cure some horrible diseases, every little bit helps! Peace

Steve

A Major Milestone!

Congrats, Kov-Ice! Topped the 300K mark. Nice job!

And a quick edit to add a big Way To Fold to The Editor In Chief, Force Flow. Hit the 90K mark!

Special nod to nubbler for topping 70K!

Another edit: zelira goes over 30K! great work!

And a new member of the 1,000 points club, way to fold David M!

Also nice to see that the winter break is over and enhanced08's machines are back in production. He's taken over the number one ppd postition again. And more good news! We show an increase of 4 new members. Thanx everyone.

Congrats on getting to 300,000 Kov-Ice!

We're slipping a bit in the team rankings (down to 70 now), and at the current paces we won't pass another team for another 2 months. Let's try to pick it up guys.

On a happier note, I'm now up to 5 computers folding just about 24/7, so my production should definitely go up a bit!

Thanks for the shout out PR! Should be hitting 2000 points soon with both machines going. Great job everyone!

As a side note, I just edited my AIM profile to include info about folding@home, and how to join. Hopefully we will get a few more machines on because of this, as most of my friends are signed on 24/7 and could definitely help out even if they just wanna run the screen saver. I'd encourage everyone else to do the same if you haven't already. i'll let ya'll know if this works

Its great to see someone else catching the folding bug! Talking to friends and family is a good way to get a few more machine folding for the team, you can even add them under your username to give you a boost!

Congrats to everyone!
Keep on foldin'

Congrats to whalewatcher for getting to 8000.

Just a personal update, but I'm now up to seven machines which are pumping out over 400 ppd at the moment and have lifted me over 90,000 total points. The century club, here I come.

Thanks, PR! How long are you gonna let me hold on to that spot, anyway? My ppd has been lagging for the last week, as I've had to shut down while swapping some parts and transcoding some video on my two main boxes. Hopefully, I can get kicking here and hold ya off a little longer!

I've had a couple of machines down myself lately for various reasons. One I didn't even know about! Found a finished WU unreported because of an ip conflict on my network. Hard to say how long before the Mystery_Folder sneaks up on ya but stats say it'll be about a month. Enjoy it while you can! hehe
