Good job, mrN8! You may not have access to the machines that produced those great ppd of old, but your folding dedication is still much appreciated.

I'm going Core2Duo next week.
Should install a 2nd instance of F@H to take advantage of it? If so, how do I install a 2nd service of F@H? I know I've read that somewhere before but can't remember. Currently in 178th place: Donator Marke522 Team pcmech.com (13761) Score 2814 (certificate) Donator Rank 173118 of 601155 WU 23 (certificate) Date of last work unit 2005-04-05 12:27:32 That was all done on this pc, I turn it off at night when I go to bed, so I guess I'm doing ok. Every little bit helps, right?

The GUI interferred with a few games I was playing that used OpenGL. The game either minimized or crashed back to the desktop. Took me awhile to figure out what was causing the conflict. I eventually started closing programs one at a time, and waited to see if it helped. Ended up being F@H.
The console is better. Does everything on it's own, and out of the way. |

Thought I'd recognize some milestones that our folders have recently reached (before PR hits the magic million!)
Congratulations to..... Jumala - 10,000+ points! Darkside_aka_nm (and myself!) - 30,000+ points! Louds3 - 40,000+ points! Figarowa - 50,000+ points! Ghost2003 has just joined the 100,000 points club! JRP Red just hit 125,000 points! Wolfpac_Ite and DrZaius just joined the 200,000 points club! ...and MrN8 just hit HALF A MILLION points! Apologies if I've missed any here, I've only looked at the 'active' folders in EOC's stats so anyone who's not submitted a WU in a couple of days might have been left out. Finally, a quick mention for dschief and Nester - who seem to be relatively new folders but are turning out BIG points per day for us! Keep going folks... FK Edit: Just noticed that Kov has already recognized MrN8's milestone. Ahh well, I think it's worthy of two mentions! Last edited by freakitchen; 02-13-2007 at 01:48 PM. |

Yeah, it was nice when I had a handful of servers and about 15 desktops at my disposal. Some of those desktops are still folding...just don't tell my old employer. I've currently got 2 machines that I'm actively using for FAH. One more will be back as soon as I recover from some water damage to my office. I had a pipe burst right above my office last week. Yowza, what a mess. |

Yep, my sincere congratulations PR - the first of us lot to hit the milestone, and, according to EOC, 1 of an exclusive club of 837 members!

Way to go, PR! Not only that, FK, but only about five hundred TEAMS out of the thousands that contribute have even reached that mark!
I'll drink to that!

Thanx for the kind nods fellers - and the consession speech, Eric.
Took a few days longer than I anticipated a month ago but the goal was to get it done before my birthday. Made it with 2 days to spare. Doesn't seem that long ago that I started Folding just as an experiment to see what type of heat increase would be seen when a cpu ran at 100% load for a length of time. It's still exciting to see the work units completed increase and the overall rank number keep declining while those total points kept creeping up on the 1M mark. Won't be long and we can all congratulate enhanced08 on joining me in this exclusive little club. Thanx again all.

NICELY DONE PR!!!. Maybe someday I'll have 10,000.
![]() Got 2 separate installs of F@H workingon my Core2. Thanks for the help FK. Both installed as a service. I think now I'll put that on my daughters computer also, and my moms, and my sisters, and my..... Maybe if I I tell F@H to only use 80% of the free cpu they'll never notice. I know it's suppossed to only use the idle space, but how good is it at releasing the needed processor when it's needed by another app? |

It's default setting is to be the lowest priority, so it always backs down. Even at 100%.
![]() Make sure you always ask before installing, tho.

Okay so I installed the console version, went through this:
Launch automatically at machine startup, install this as a service (yes/no) [no] Ask before fetching/sending work (no/yes) [no]? = no Use Internet Explorer Settings (no/yes) [no]? = no Use proxy (yes/no) [no]? = no Allow receipt of work assignments and return results greater than 5MB in size (may have large memory demands) (no/yes) [no] Change advanced options (yes/no) [no]? = yes Core Priority (idle/low) [idle]? = idle CPU usage requested (5-100) [100]? = 100 Disable highly optimized assembly code (no/yes) [no]? = no Pause if battery power is being used (useful for laptops) (no/yes) [no] Interva, in minutes, between checkpoints (3-30) [15]? = 15 Memory, in MB, to indicate (xxxx available) [xxxx] Request work units without deadlines (no/yes) [no] = no Set -advmethods flag always, requesting new advanced scientific cores and/or work units if available (no/yes) [no] Ignore deadline information (no/yes) [no]? = no Machine ID (1-8) [1]? = 1 It proceeds to start working but when I click on X to close the window it also closes the program? What am I doing wrong? Also where do I input the -local tag, because if I right click to properties and add that right there it changes it from an .exe to an unusable file. |

you selected NOT to install it as a service so it will close when you click the X. delete the client.cfg file and run the program again to make changes.
Launch automatically at machine startup, install this as a service (yes/no) [no] that should be "Yes" to run as a service to run the -local flag, or any other flag, you must create a shortcut to the .exe and add the flag to the target area of the shortcut. this is found by right clicking the shortcut and viewing its properties. btw, welcome to the team! |

First WU from my workstation (laptop) in Poland! Got a new flat in Poland, connected to the internet via ADSL, and my first " foreign " WU is complete! Mentioned to a friend, who is going back to the states and has 10 computers at his home there, he might want to start folding. Who knows if he will decide to start folding? He seems to have some experience with the SETI software, but also does not really understand the benefits of folding.

Good to hear you're up and running, Sunset. You could point your friend in the direction of the thread I have linked to in my signature, for some encouragement!

i agree, let your friend know what folding is and what it does. if those 10 systems are pretty new/fast systems he could possibly be one of our top folders. Glad everything is going well for ya, sunset!

When you have more than one instance running, the -local flag tells the client to save its work in the local directory from which it is running, I believe.

The way I did it, was after I installed it the first time, it made a new folder, "F@H".
So I made a 2nd folder, "F@H2", moved the console.exe into it, created a shortcut, added (space)-config to the target line, and when I installed it, everything went into the new folder. Have to be sure to make it Machne 2. Maybe not the "correct" way, but it worked. Last edited by Marke522; 02-22-2007 at 12:41 AM. |

Oh. I created two directories as well - FAH and FAH2. I copied the program over and in advanced options I designated it as instance 2. So should I still add a local tag or is the way I did it ok too?
