I hope to fold.

so I just built my first PC and figured i should fold. well from what i have read it uses unused CPU cycles so it doesnt interfere. I also read that if you are on the PCmech team you need to keep track of your points, this still hold true??

you don't have to keep track of them, it just makes it more fun to see how many points you have compared to other members.

we would love to have you on the team!

You will probably want the graphical client. This allows you to use menus, buttons etc to choose options and graphics to view the proteins you are working on. The text-only console is command-line, you type in what you want it to do.

You are on cable modem correct? Do you have a personal firewall running?

Take a look at this thread.

Amazin, do you have the "use IE settings" enabled? That could cause a problem. If that doesn't work, a look at the F@H forums suggested to try forwarding F@H to port 8080. Hope that helps.

Extreme overclocking keeps track of points and you can see pcmech on there and you own account, after you have submitted your first work unit.

You can also use Electron microscope to monitor the progress of your current WU.

Hiya Amazin,

There's a link in my sig for the images. There are a whole bunch there, and I'm hoping to get some new ones done up soon as I haven't added any for a month or so now.

400 frames doesn't really tell you if it's "big" or not. There are several different types of work units and they all fold differently. Sometimes a 5000 frame WU will go faster than a 400 frame WU. Some are more complex than others.

If you need a hand with the sig, feel free to post back here or fire off a PM to me.
