AMD K6's can fold too!
Some might be curious, others probably won't care. If you are the later, just ignore me.
![]() Just for fun, and because it would be sitting in my workshop taking up space otherwise, I started my AMD K6 system folding a while back. • AMD K6 @ 500MHz • 100MHz FSB • 32kb Cache • 64MB PC100 SDRAM Well, it's first work unit was started June 15th and it just finished yesterday (July 24th). Not bad I suppose, considering the age and performance of the CPU. Better than taking up a spot on my workbench and collecting dust!

Yeah, it will fold, but it takes forever. I shelved my K6 and cannibalized the rig for parts for use in a PII 233 rig. That actually folds much much better. It seems to have a better math unit.

After seeing the length of time it takes for a single WU, I'm considering doing the same thing. I'm sure I have enough stuff laying around to get another system together, even if it means buying a mobo to slap everything into.

My P1-MMX/200 did Seti units faster than my K6-2/500. The K6 math unit is just awful. Stryker, if you want to fold with that box, pull the K6 and drop a 233 MMX in it. You should be able to do a mild overclock to 75 FSB to get it going even better as long as you put a halfway decent heatsink/fan on it, the one from the K6 will fit fine.

That a great idea glc. I think I'll start poking around for a 233 MMX and give it a try. could be a fun little project, as I've never tried OCing before.
Thanks for the idea!

Foldin' For PCMech!

thats the same with mine, put folding on a K6 500 and it took forever to fold but seti ran 100 times better on it, so i had it running seti until it was upgraded to an AMD 2400+.

I think it would be more fun to build a system with an fx57 and see how it folds lol.

Well, I did some poking around in my pile of PC stuff and as it turns out I had a Slot 1 mobo and a PIII 600MHz sitting around. I tossed a 256MB stick of PC100 in it and she's up and folding now.
![]() Should perform just a little better than the K6!
