I am planing to try and convinve my school to use our 100-200 computers to run F@H. The only problem is that the people in charge of computers at my school is not to thrilled with general third party software(wont even let us run firefox)
Basically what could I tell them to try and convince them that this folding at home deal would be a good idea? any ideas? im kinda commin up dry here?

Well, you could tell then in a nice presentation maybe a cool power point or something and a persuasive speach that F@H, a program that runs on spare cpu cycles, is mimicking how protiens fold, and the guys at Stanford interpret this data. By succesfully understanding how proteins fold many diseases can possible be cured. Unlike straigh strands of DNA, proteins twist and tangle and are a lot harder to interpret where and what causes a protein to fold. Its worth a try, but I think in the end you would have to be really persuasive to convince a school board like that.

If Ryan's suggestions don't work for you, try searching this forum. This question has been asked a few times in the past.

Remember to hook them up the PCMech folding team if you convince them.

Foldin' For PCMech!

You can try what I did, talk to the Science Dept and get then hooked on the idea. Once you have them tell them you want to put it on the school systems and have them help you present the idea to the admin, make sure you explain EXACTLY how you plan to install, monitor, update, etc the software and what all it does. Also, make sure you have permission in writting to do this, even an email will work.
Good Luck!
