Added a laptop to the Team

I recently got a laptop and I'm adding it to the team. Spec details are here: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...118#post988118. However, it will only be folding at night (about 6 hrs. per night) and maybe some weekends because of the battery life constraint.

I can also have it folding at work if I plug it in. But do I need any ports open in order to send/receive WUs? Or do I only need a regular internet connection? I'm quite sure we have a wireless network at the office but all the ports are monitored/closed.

I'm curious how my laptop would compare to my desktop in terms of folding power. But my desktop is running 24/7. It will also be interesting to see how much this added computing power would add to my daily production.

Good thing it's starting to cool down here in NJ. I'm looking forward to having a warmer room, compared to the rest of the house, in winter.

I don't think you have to have it connected to the internet all the time, just enough so it can send and recieve WUs at some point.

Alright, good to hear! I have to present the idea to the current ITech class at the college on thursday before they will let me install it. That class has about 20 2.8Ghz Dell systems.

As for ports, I have no clue what specific ports FAH needs, never had any problems with my firewall when it was up.

Hey, james. As far as ports, I remember reading that port 8080 needed to be opened, but I no longer see that referenced on the Stanford site. Maybe just give it a try to see if it works with the standard connection.
