Folding@Home interfering with Far Cry
Whenever I launch Far Cry while F@H is running, it automatically minimizes and I can't get it back on the screen. Does anyone else have this problem, and is ther e a fix for it?

Are you running the graphical version or are you running as a service (text-only console). I've heard the graphical version can interfere with games because it uses OpenGL.

This is true, and happened to me for FarCry, Battle Field 2, and Doom3. Either shutdown F@H or uninstall. I ended up uninstalling b/c I never ended up having F@H run since I game on and off for twenty minute or so every hour.

You will experience no problems with the text-only console or the F@H service. Just delete the .exe file for the GUI, and drop the text-only file into that same folder, and your work will pick up right where you left off.

Just quit F@H before you start the game.
Since I close down just abut everything I can I usually restart after I finish playing and F@H picks up where it left off.

pam, is that with the GUI or console? Both pause work when something else requires the processing power, but the GUI window remaining open is what causes the OpenGL conflicts with some games. Scrap the graphic interface and you shouldn't have to bother with closing and opening the clients.

It's the GUI.
It's no big deal to shut it down for the 2 hours or so I usually spend playing a game especially since I'm one of those people who shuts down anything I don't need when game playing. |

You can create a bat file to start/stop the fah client when running as a service rather than going into task manager or computer manager. I have never used it but heard it works well.

How do you use the .bat file (I've never messed with one...)? Create a shortcut icon and just double-click it when needed?

yes, just make a bat file by opening notepad and saving as start.bat and stop.bat. you must have the file location (c:/ program files....) the same as in your services management or it wont work. make sure the file name is also correct then just double click the bat file or make a shortcut to click.
I just tried it and it works nicely. |

That's good stuff. You should cut and paste a little tutorial of this for the Info to Know thread, if you have the spare time.

Yeah, folding does not like video games. I just turn it off when I play games on my pc.
