Tried to start F@H (Again)
Hi all,
I really want to get F@H to work to help out the team and participate in Stanford's project, but I am running into more difficulties. Currently, I have the graphical client running and it is estimating one day to finish this WU. I registered under the PCMech Team I started folding yesturday afternoon, but so far the donator page hasn't been updated to include my progress. http://vspx27.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/m...me=Ryan_Passey Can anyone tell me if this it is working or not? PS- I had the same problem before, where I finished a WU, but nothing was updated, and I was never included as part of the PCMech team, so that caused me to unistall it as I wasn't helping. TIA Ryan

1. Make sure you have the correct team number and user name. It is not uncommon to make one of these mistakes.
2. The WU will have to finish and upload to the Sanford Servers and within 2 hours you should see your name on the team if all is correct with number 1 3 The EOC stats page is or was 3-4 hours behind the Stanford stats page so it will show up there a little later on. Now I have had problems getting credit on many of my 4000+ WU's that I submitted under PCM only to find I was credited some of the points many months after I quit folding. Which was part of the reason I quit the project. WOW #70 the team was up around #61 some time back

I highly recommend running the text-only client. It will keep you from having any interference with other programs.
Team number is 13761. Your name can't include any special characters other than an underscore, in case that was a holdup. We'll look for your name on the stats list in the next few days. Yours too, ryan.

Would you recomend that I try to finish this WU, and then switch to the text based client, or switch now? I guess I can switch now, but And which should I use 5.04 or 5.02? |

Use the latest version for your OS. You can just drop the console.exe into the current folder and then create a shortcut for it. As long as you don't delete the work folder, it will pick back up where you left off.

I agree with Kov in that you should use the CLI (Command Line Interface (text-only)) version. It has less errors with other programs and some say it actually folds a little faster than the graphical. You can also install it as a service with the CLI so it will still be working but out of sight, you can then use EMIII or FahMon to monitor it if you wish.
Once you get things setup and working you can add the -advmethods flag and BigWU which should allow you to get some 600 and 364 (i think) pointers which should fold pretty fast on that FX55. Welcome to the team (again)!

Okay, I am just going to let this WU finish before Downloading the CLI version and putting it in the same folder and running that instead. I would like to first verify that it is working.
Thanks for the help. |

That'll work, when you do get the CLI simply stop the graphical, delete the .exe from the Folding@home folder then drop the downloaded CLI version in. If you plan on installing as a service then you have 2 options of how to do that. 1) add the -config flag to a shortcut to the .exe and it will allow you to edit the config options and then close. 2) you can delete the client.cfg file and just doubleclick the .exe which will bring up the config options and then start folding. Once the service option is selected it will fold with the window open, restart the computer and it will be running in the background as a service.

When will the donator page pick up and show that I have began folding?
Is it after one WU? Because it still says I haven't been working, but I am already a fifth of the way done my first WU. |

The stats pages only update after you have finished a WU and sent it back to the servers. Stanfords stats are first to update followed by others such as EOC. These update later because they read from Stanfords stats.

No problem, I know Stanford used to have their stats at near realtime but I think it only updates on the hour or something now. At most I would say 3 hours after its been uploaded to the servers you should get credit.

one fifth does not make a whole unit as I said in my earlier post: The WU will have to finish and upload to the Sanford Servers and within 2 hours you should see your name on the team if all is correct with number 1 |

Randomly lost WU???
Is this normal? I was working away, and encountered a reason where i needed to refresh explorer.exe. After doing so, I had lost all the work so far on my first WU (like 230/500 frames) and a new one downloaded and started up. Just wondering if this is something that normally happens or not? |

Not normally but it does happen. Most of the time its due to an unstable OC which is why folding is used to test systems for stability. Check the logfile and see if it uploaded the old unit or not. Try restarting the computer.

I think Stanford even gives partial credit when a WU runs into an issue and has to be terminated early. Like Eric said, if you look in the FAHlog.txt, it will give you some info on what took place.
Don't be discouraged. The kinks will work themselves out. |

.. I am now wanting to fold faster and faster lol... I am leaving my PC on longer than before and stuff. If I can, I will try to find a way to install the Linux client on my SmoothWall computer (500MHz CPU)... if that works then it will be running all the time that my PC is on too.
