Multiple systems folding
Hi guys
Happy to be finally contributing to the project and team with a dedicated system. Just finished my first work unit (not so speedy on a Celly 800!) and I'm now on the list at Stanford ![]() Just wanted to ask about the correct way to set up another system folding. Obviously I'll use my username and PC Mech team number, but do I need to change the advanced options to show machine ID "2"? My only reason for asking is that I remember reading something about data being corrupted with two ore more machines sending info simultaneously If it makes a difference, these two machines will be on different internet connections for the time being. Would it make a difference if at any point they were being used on the same network? Hope that makes sense FK

I've never had a problem with using multiple machines... I mean, you have people with sometimes 100's of machines (at their workplace, for instance) but F@H only gives you ID's 1-10... so I say just give them a different machine ID if you can, and it should work fine from there

The machine ID number doesn't matter unless you are running a dully or a Hyperthreading type setups that run more than one instance of Folding on a single PC. If it's on a single cpu and only one instance of FAH then leave it number 1.
Being on the same network isn't an issue at all.

What are the specs of the other 2 machines? I assume one will be your 3200+? Just curious...

Eric...yes one will be the 3200+, my main system. I've got a number of older computers sitting around that I'm slowly turning into dedicated folding machines.
The next to come online will be an Athlon 1300+ with 256MB Memory. Not the fastest, but hopefully quicker than the Celeron 800 I started with ![]() FK |

w00t! More dedicated machines! I would really like to see the team get back to 15k PPD.
Once we pass Sharky Forums they might join us. I stopped in and asked if they would like to create a subteam on our team since we now have more members and are going to pass them. That would be a nice 9k PPD bump but I'm not looking for them to actually join. Oh, well.... Fold on PcMech'ers! |
