Foldin' For PCMech!
|
Yurt
As some of you know I have been working on a project (fah-database) for Folding@Home. I asked some guys at HardForums.com to help me and YURT was born. After a number of arguments and "head butts" between me and the programmer I finally gave up and let him do what he wanted even tho it was all my idea/project. In the end its about 70% of what I had originally wanted and since I have no time to do better it will have to work.
If you would like to join add to YURT, stop by http://yurt.blaszczak.com/ and download the program. BASICS ______ What YURT does is simple. Its a small program that collects data about your folding@home progress and adds the data to a website database where it can be viewed against other similar or totally different systems. Want to know if AMD really is better at folding? This is the way to find out. Is a 3400+ faster than a 3800+? Stop by and see. Its a little after 12am after a long week at work so if none of that makes sense there is a better description on the website itself. Happy Folding!

Hey, Eric. Good to hear from ya.
Just glancing at the site, it doesn't seem like it's quite as comprehensive as you were shooting for. I see it shows PPD for certain processors. Is that an average of all the processors of that type that YURT recorded? Was it too dificult for the mining program to record all of the other variables to catalog the way you were hoping?

Yeah, it doesn't have near what I wanted at first. What it came down to was the fact that the programmer didn't want to listen to my ideas but didn't want to do the extra work to do it his way if that makes any sense. I had it totally figured out how the program could collect all the data I wanted by using CPUz to collect the data in its "ghost mode". Even check with the makers of it and got permission to bundle it with the program. CPUz would export the data to a text file where a program could be written to read from the text file. He thought this was a dumb idea but didn't want to write a program as complicated as CPUz is to collect the data. So... after arguing with him about it I just gave up and let him do it his way. Its close to what I wanted and might still give some good data. I just dont have the time right now to mess with finding another programmer who will do what I actually wanted. Maybe down the road sometime... Until then this will have to do.
Yes, the average PPD should be an average of that type processor. My programmer wouldn't let me help with the database/website side of it so I'm not sure how the site actually works. |
