No WUs for me!

Hi folks, been having a lot of trouble getting work units assigned lately, with a couple of my machines failing completely, despite multiple retries for the past week. The error was "could not connect to work server".

Both machines with the problem were set to request deadline-less WUs, though changing the config to not request them had no effect.

Is this a problem at my end?

Hmm, I'm having the problem too. If it's doing it again, I'll post the part of the log in. May not be just you.

EDIT: Try rebooting - Seemed PRed was having a similar problem and a reboot fixed it.

This may be a continuation of the problems over the last couple weeks due to Stanford having to turn off some non-critical servers due to heat. As blue picked up, try rebooting and see if your wu's get forwarded and new work is assigned.

A reboot unfortunately didn't fix things here. What confuses me is that the console client says nothing about needing to submit a finished WU, just getting a new one. That said, my 'unitinfo.txt' has information of a fully completed unit.

Any more advise, or is this just a case of waiting it out?

Does your FAHlog.txt file show the "sent" work most recently completed? If you have no work to send and you're awaiting assingment of a new wu, I think ya just have to wait it out. If nothing happens in a couple hours, try another reboot. You might also want to check the Forums at the Folding site and see if others are having similar issues.

Yep, that machine sent its last WU sucessfully a couple of days ago, so it would appear its failing to connect to a server at Stanford's end for a new unit. Shall check the forums, thanks PR

EDIT: Found some comments in a thread like this....

Hi makeitwork the server http://171.64.122.133:8080/ is for timeless tinkers and none are available at the moment that is why you are getting no new work.

Are you running deadlineless WU's? If you do, I'm afraid the servers will not be giving you a new WU, since they are empty.
Looks like I'd better have another go at requesting some regular WUs for a while. A lot of similar comments talk about there being no indication of when the Timeless Tinkers will be back, and that it might be worth shutting down very slow systems that have no hope of submitting a large WU within the deadline! Hopefully this Celly-800 will just about cope with the regulars

Hmm, mine didn't go either. Except it's sending, not receiving. I've got another WU about to wrap up. I'll see if it sends.

From the info I saw on the link PR gave me, it appears they've an intermittent problem on receiving WUs, and are completely down on sending Timeless Tinkers. I personally haven't had a problem submitting on any of my machines, so hopefully yours will go without too much trouble.

The one that just finished was uploaded fine. Here's the error I'm getting for other:

Quote:
[18:14:52] + Attempting to send results
[18:15:23] Couldn't send HTTP request to server (wininet)
[18:15:23] + Could not connect to Work Server (results)
[18:15:23] (171.65.103.151:8080)
[18:15:23] - Error: Could not transmit unit 03 (completed August 5) to work server.

[18:15:23] + Attempting to send results
[18:15:24] Couldn't send HTTP request to server (wininet)
[18:15:24] + Could not connect to Work Server (results)
[18:15:24] (171.65.103.100:8080)
[18:15:24] Could not transmit unit 03 to Collection server; keeping in queue.
As you can see it's been doing it since the 5th...I thought it was just server difficulties, but it's still doing it.

The problem with timeless tinkers is that people running AMD systems found out that if they set their system to run tinkers they get more points than running normal units thus sucking all the servers dry since the AMDs can get them finished much quicker than an older machine.
