HowTo Installing Folding GPU Client on ATI X1900 Series Video Cards
This thread will guide you through the process of installing Folding's newest GPU client.
As some of you know, Stanford has been working on a new, GPU, client for over a year now and its finally here! This client has proven to generate more power to the folding client than anyother client Stanford has ever put out. OS Type ******* Current TFLOPS ******* Active CPUs ******** Total CPUs Windows *********** 150************** 158478 *********** 1525083 Mac OS X ************* 4**************** 7958 ************* 90655 Linux **************** 21 ************** 17422 ************ 194057 GPU ***************** 27 **************** 424 *************** 678 Total *************** 202 ************* 184282 *********** 1810473 The new GPUs are very very powerful when compared to the CPU and thus are a big help when it comes to folding. How can I help? To be able to run the GPU client you must have one of the following video card from ATI: X1900GT X1900AIW X1900XT X1900XTX X1950PRO (use 6.10 beta drivers) X1950XT (use 6.10 beta drivers) X1950XTX (use 6.10 beta drivers) No other video cards are supported as of this posting. I dont look for them to ever support any video card lower than, say an X1600. Thats just my opinion and could be wrong but I doubt it. Nvidia is said to be added to the list of supported cards soon but is currently not on the list. You will need: 1. The latest DirectX 2. The ATI Radeon Catalyst Drivers 3. GPU client (beta only) Installing: Download, extract and install DirectX. Download ATi drivers. Uninstall old drivers from Add/remove programs. Reboot. Say "No" when Windows tries to find new video drivers. Install downloaded ATI drivers. Reboot. GPU text-only (console) Install Download from Stanford. Create a new folder (C:\Program files\FAH is what i use) PLace downlaoded file in new folder Run the program and answer the questions (user name, team number 13761, etc) *DO NOT install as a service, this beta version runs much better as a standard application.* Select "yes" to change advanced options. If you are running a single core/cpu system set the Machine ID to 2 and for a dual core/cpu system set the ID to 3. Finish the questions and your finished. Hit Ctl+C and the program will close. This client requires 1 core/cpu to "feed" the GPU with data. What this means is that if you have a single core/cpu system then you can ONLY run either the CPU version or the GPU version, not both. For a dual core/cpu system you can run 1 CPU and 1 GPU or 2 CPU and 0 GPU but NOT 2 CPU and 1 GPU version. This is still in beta and hopfully this problem will be resolved soon. Happy Folding!
