Need some hand holding. Have tried to get a second client running, but when I launch the second copy I get an error MSG saying " FAH is already running" or words to that effect. then it shuts down "
Ive got the second copy set up in its own dirctory. So the path is different. I've tried following the steps listed in the Tips thread, but they may be a bit dated, since it's referencing FAH3console.exe And I,ve got 5.03 Any help would be appreciated. |

What you need to do is setup the second instance with a different machine ID. To do this you must be running the text-only version, run the setup by either deleting the client.cfg file or run the -config flag.
** To run the -config flag, right click the folding application and create a shortcut. Right click the shortcut and goto properties and at the end of the Target line add this: " -config" without the quotes and note there is a space before the dash. Click Ok. Now, anytime you click this shortcut it will allow you to edit the config options. This procedure works the same for all fah flags. ** Now simple enter all your options as you normally would but where it says Machine ID, change the number to something other than what the other client is configed as (default is 1 so change it to 2,3,4,5,6,7,or 8). Note you must say yes to enter the advanced options menu. Thats all you need to do, for 2 instances, the same is for more than 2 instances, just change the Machine ID again. And make sure you have a dual core, dual cpu, or HT capable processor to run 2 instances or you will not see any advantage from it.

I found that info, after I posted the question. I un-installed the GUI version. Did the "make dir"
for each machine Id. every thing went ok including downloading core_ 78 . but it died after connecting the the work server. It connected ok to 171.64.122.133 but kept failing attempting to extract the WU. I finally gave up and re-installed the GUI client. It's happily chuging away now. |

That's weird. What's your processor?
Even if you can only run one client, I like to use the Console version. The GUI can have some conflicts with certain programs, while the Console is virtually non-existent. You can then always use Electron Microscope to follow your progress. By the way, welcome to the team!

Here is how I would setup that machine with folding. Use your own username and all.
Do the same thing for the second instance, only change the Machine ID to 2, once you restart your computer you wont even know its running unless you check Task Manager.Happy Folding, and welcome to our team!
