folding at work?

Hey everyone,

It's been a while since I actually have a job now I don't have much time to hang on the boards but here's a big shout out to everyone faithfully contributing!

Does anyone know of any companies that have all their office machines running folding @ home? I work for a company (d'addario guitar strings) and we have probably 100 machines going all day long, think there's any chance my IT department would sign off on running it? The company takes it's philanthropic duties pretty seriously so I think it may be worth a shot to ask, what do you guys think? thanks

steve

There are schools, universities, government offices, and businesses that run the program. You never know unless you ask.

Maybe show them the Stanford University website, link them to some of the FAQ answers your IT dept might want to know, or even show the stats list of who is running F@H already.

i got my high school to run it by showing them a power point i made. i posted it on here awhile back. you may use it and/or change it if you think it will help.

i say go for it, it never hurts to ask. the worst they can say is no.

cool, thanks guys. I am going to get some good facts together from various websites as you recommend and check out the power point also, maybe they would be willing to run the screensaver version since it will only be running when the computer is completely idle anyway. thanks

I'd recommend the service if at all possible. This way, no one will see it or could mess with it. Be sure to point out that F@H sets itself as lowest priority, so any time another program accesses the cpu it backs off. Good luck!

It does not back off memory requests, however.
