Change
I have had to reduce folding by most all boxes. Been doing this for several years now. Feel like I have made my contribution and will continue to look for opportunities to add back to my contributions. Meanwhile, ya'll fold on and I will try to catch back up!

I suppose I should point out the Stanford folding site where many, many explanations are offered. I cannot do it justice. In my case, simply put, I allow my PC's to "fold" proteins to advance research on meaningful diseases. Also, I personally have suffered loss due to cancer and that adds impetus. Lastly, my son sees research of all kinds that is valuable to solving the riddle of why cancer exists and how to mitigate, if not prevent its effects. He invests his summers to breast cancer research. Soooo, the point is that you, too, can contribute via Stanford's "Folding @ Home" research by simply allowing your computer (painlessly) to work on it while you , otherwise, go about your daily routines of gaming, surfing, working, etc. It really does not interfere (my multi-year experience).
You ask, "Why are you shutting down some boxes, then?" Well..... they are not all mine and the owners have other sensitivities I must appreciate and defer to. Near term, the reward for participation in folding proteins is advancement through the ranks of your team (PCMech we hope) for recognition by your peers. Sublety, the reward is KNOWING that you have participated in a solution that will one day be realized for cancer treatment (or other disease). Hope this helps...... Please fold to your heart's content. I do. P.S. I am not affiliated with anybody such as Stanford, etc. I simply care. |

Foldin' For PCMech!
|
sorry to see you backing down some, skipper. we all have our ups and downs. Im just now getting back in the game a little bit after a few months of near idle. Thanks for your efforts!
shadow, as Kov said, if you have any questions dont be afraid to start a thread and ask! folding is pretty simple to setup and, once running, is near maintenance free.
